You will find events for singles, couples, and everyone in between from small gatherings to larger soirees and networking opportuntiies. In 2001 I studied Chinese calligraphy at the Smithsonian Resident Associates with an artist from Shanghai. That summer I enrolled in Chinese language courses at the Northern Virginia Community College. I have been studying Chinese ever since. In 2010 I completed a graduate program at the Hopkins- Nanjing Center (HNC). Shortly after I returned to the US I started the Arlington Chinese Corner hoping to meet others in Arlington with similar interests and to find opportunities to keep spea …

Lots of new people are exploring barefoot running thanks to people like Christopher Mcdougall (Born to Run) and Barefoot Ted. Come join us for a run today! Everyone is welcome - even curious non- …
Come join a group of singles who live in the DC area and do some good in your DC, Northern Virginia, or Suburban Maryland community at the same time. We find events that need a group of ten or more volunteers and sign up as a group. This is done through our own website, svdc dot org, rather than through meet-up (although let us know if you can think of ways we can use meet up to work better). Come on over, join our group and help out around town.
… We post selected events in Washington, DC, Northern Virginia and Central Maryland, allowing members to choose the Meetup that is most convenient or that best fits their stargazing preferences (metro-accessible urban observatory vs. semi-rural, dark sky "star parties", etc.). Our aim is to help you rekindle your connection with the night sky while having fun and meeting others with similar interests. This group is for people who love to bake and want to make friends with others who have the same hobby! I started this group because there aren't many groups for bakers out there, especially not in Northern Virginia. Everyone is welcome, as long as you have an interest in baking (or eating baked goods)!
The Northern Virginia Musicians Workshop is a monthly event where musicians of ALL skill levels can practice the Art of Performing in front of an audience and share feedback with encouraging peers. I think it's different (but not better) than a jam or a song circle, because it was created to provide you the platform to try out new songs, covers and stories in a low-stress environment. Jerad Walker of WAMU 88.5 Bluegrass Country describes it like "Toastmasters for musicians." And it totally is. …

Those were the movies. This is for Real! Belief in a Universal Force, be it Energy, Chi, Ki, Prana, or the Force is more than just a fictional concept. The ways of the Jedi are ancient and fundamental. Its wisdom has always been there for those who sought it. The Maryland/Virginia Jedi Chapter is not a role-playing group, nor is it a Star Wars fan group, although many of us are fans. This group is designed to bring together people who follow and practice the principles of the Jedi path in real …

The club members are of varying running abilities and ages. Many run ultramarathons, but some don't run at all. The VHTRC holds a monthly training run -- we call it the "PB&J run" because we love post-run snacks as much as we love the runs themselves. (Participant …
